Session 1 Lineup for URCA 2020

Along with opening remarks from CAS Dean Dawn Weber, the 2020 URCA Symposium opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 15 with a diverse lineup including presentations about music history, poetry, website design and adolescent psychology. Every session through 3:15 p.m. promises to be as intriguing and inspiring. The first session includes the following presentations:

• Emily Ebert's Entartete Musik: Jazz and Survival in Nazi Germany 
• Paul Dyczkowski's Speak to the Rushing Water: I Am – Reflections in Poems 
• Branden Barber, Brennen Nalley, Jacob Garry, Kyle Ackert and Renee Lucas' Interactive Chaos Automata Website 
• Dr. David Werner's The (Not So) Good, Bad, and Ugly: Adolescent Alcohol Exposure

Creative Writing & Religion Major Reveals His Nonfiction Essay

At the URCA Symposium's 10:30 a.m. session in the Trustees' Room at the Convocation Center on April 12, Creative Writing and Religion major Garrison Stima (sponsored by Dr. Joe Mackall, Professor of English) reveals his nonfiction essay, "My Tree House." As he states in his abstract:

My essay explores my interior causes for depression and self-loathing..."My Tree House" is not about renouncing my psychological issues; rather it is about who I am because of them and how rectifying them unto myself has helped to open up the avenue for moving forward.

Faculty Win Mentor Awards

Congratulations to College of Arts and Sciences faculty members Joe Mackall (English), Cindy Moseman (Family & Consumer Sciences), Tim McCarty (Journalism & Digital Media), and Brent Mattingly (Psychology), who were just announced as AU Mentor Award winners! One other thing these fine faculty members have in common is that they have all served as faculty sponsors of student presentations for URCA. At AU we are proud to have dedicated faculty who are engaged with students inside and outside of the classroom!
